A Mercedes-Benz driver was going nearly 90 mph over the speed limit seconds before crashing into two vehicles at a Lauderhill intersection in 2024, killing a man, police said.
Police arrested the suspect, identified in court and arrest documents as Cristian Dupont Gonzalez, 24, of Boynton Beach, on vehicular homicide and reckless driving charges Tuesday.
The fiery wreck happened just before 4:30 a.m. on May 23, 2024, at the intersection of Northwest 31st Avenue and 14th Street.
Police said vehicle data showed Dupont Gonzalez was driving a Mercedes-Benz 123 mph three seconds before T-boning a Chevrolet Cruze driven by Daryl Walker, 50, as he tried to turn left across the intersection.
Dupont Gonzalez then hit a parked vehicle, an arrest report states.
Walker was killed, while the suspect, who was unconscious and suffered a brain bleed, was among three others taken to the hospital.
Dupont Gonzalez was being held without bond in the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail as of Wednesday, records show.
In addition to the charges connected with the crash, Dupont Gonzalez is also being held on a probation violation for aggravated fleeing and eluding at high speed.
