Lauderhill Shines, a free self-paced virtual course, is back with Cohort 11. Designed specifically for new and aspiring entrepreneurs in the City of Lauderhill, this program equips participants with the practical knowledge, resources, and mentorship needed to start strong and grow strategically.

Led by Commissioner Melissa P. Dunn, Lauderhill Shines reflects the city’s commitment to building a strong local economy by investing in the people behind it.

About the Program

Lauderhill Shines is a capacity-building initiative that combines flexible online learning with direct access to local experts. Over the course of 12 weeks, participants engage with four key modules, live Q&A sessions, and master classes—all focused on helping them navigate the business landscape in Lauderhill.

This is not just theory—it’s hands-on guidance from the very people who shape the city’s economic and regulatory environment.

What You’ll Learn

Doing Business in Lauderhill
Participants meet city officials, code enforcement officers, and department directors to learn how to navigate local regulations and maximize the resources available to business owners in Lauderhill.

Laying a Strong Foundation
This module covers essential business operations including accessing capital, writing and negotiating contracts, setting up bookkeeping systems, and understanding basic HR functions.

Getting Customers
Marketing, networking, and social media strategy take center stage as participants learn how to build visibility, attract customers, and convert interest into growth.

Scaling Your Business
Learn how to position your business for larger opportunities through certification and the acquisition of city, state, and federal contracts. This module is taught by experienced public sector professionals who understand the process inside and out.
