Lauderhill condo fire sparked by pot left on stove displaces family, sends child to hospital

A 9-year-old was taken to a hospital for evaluation Friday after possible smoke inhalation following a condominium fire that authorities say displaced a mother and two children in Lauderhill.

Lauderhill Fire Rescue officials said crews responded to the fire and confirmed the family living in the home, located in the 2000 block of Northwest 43rd Terrace, was unable to remain there following the incident.

Officials said the child was transported by a basic life support unit for evaluation. Authorities have not released the child’s gender or identity.

Investigators said the blaze originated from a pot left unattended on the stove.

They said after the mother and two children were displaced by the fire, the American Red Cross was contacted to assist the victims with temporary housing and support services.

No other details about the fire were immediately released.
